Description:Job Title: Clinic Medical Assistant / LPN

Summary Description: Responsible for providing professional health care to clinic patients following established standards and practices of care. Assists the health care team in coordinating patient care.

Supervision Received: Directly supervised by the Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities:
Escorts patients to an examination room or to the emergency room.
Obtains patient vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, weight, height, and pulse oximetry.
Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information.
Records test and examination results.
Observes, records and reports patient conditions, reactions to drugs, and reactions to treatments to the primary health care physicians and / or professional midlevel provider.
Assists primary health care providers with examinations and treatment procedures.
Assists patients in preparing for an examination and when necessary, assists with disrobing, gowning, draping, and positioning.
Applies dressings as directed by the primary health care provider.
Removes casts, staples or sutures as certifications allow and as directed by the primary health care provider.
Competencies must be completed prior to performing task.
Instructs patients on home care as directed by the primary health care provider.
Performs ear lavage as directed by the primary health care provider.
Adds medications and supplies needed to be ordered to each list respectively.
Cleans and supplies examination rooms daily.
Screens non-patient visitors.
Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments and treatment trays per protocol.
Assist in emergency room procedures as certifications allow.
Responds to or refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. At the direction of the primary health care provider, instructs patient and family regarding treatment instructions. Maintains patient confidentiality.
May be required to take after-hour and weekend call as part of the on-call medical team for the clinic. Training in the emergency room will be provided prior to such an assignment.
Maintains certification in all laboratory procedures.
Prepare and administer IM medications using the 5 rights of medication administration as certifications allow.
Assist laboratory as needed with venipuncture specimen collections.
The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position.

Qualifications:
Certificate graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program. Current National Certified Clinical Medical
Assistance Certificate or has applied or will apply for testing within 6 months of completion of program.
Prefer minimum of one-year medical assistant experience. Applicants with emergency department and outpatient clinic experience preferred.
Current certification in Basic Life Support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of professional regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
Ability to work as a member of the "health care team".
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Schedule: 8-hour shift

Education:
High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:
EMR systems: 1 year (Preferred)
Vital signs: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:
BLS Certification (Preferred)
Certified Medical Assistant (Required)
