Wyoming Game Warden Exam offered in October
Registration deadline September 9th
July 26, 2005

Have you always wanted to be a game warden working with wildlife and wildlife management? The Wyoming Game & Fish Department is offering the game warden competitive examination between October 1-October 15, 2005. All law enforcement personnel including wildlife technician, game warden trainee, game warden, and regional access coordinator positions are selected from competitive examination, per Wyoming statute. Traditionally, there have been very few permanent openings. However, the department anticipates increased employment opportunities due to several upcoming retirements. This is an opportunity for anyone interested in wildlife management to get their foot in the door in this field with the Wyoming Game & Fish Department.

Primary responsibilities include wildlife management data collection and analysis, enforcement of game and fish laws and regulations, evaluation of damage to crops and livestock by wildlife, and acting as local liaison between the department and the public. A substantial amount of training and all equipment is provided.

Monthly salary varies depending upon duty assignment. Wildlife technician - $1,596-$3,248
Game warden trainee - $1,596-$3,248
Game warden - $2,435-$4,956
Regional Access Coordinator - $2,879-$3,538

Exams are scheduled anywhere from once to twice a year, depending on vacancies. Interview candidates are selected based on a combination of factors including overall test scores, writing ability, number of credit hours in hands-on wildlife courses, grades, and the job suitability profile report. No single factor will be used to select interview candidates. Registration for the exam is required. Application submission and exam registration deadline is Friday, September 9, 2005.

For Wyoming positions, the test will be given on two dates at two locations:
Monday, October 3, 2005 8:00 am, Wyoming Game & Fish office in Casper
Saturday, October 15, 2005 9:00 am, University of Wyoming in Laramie

Tests will also be given in October for Game Warden positions in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Utah.

Minimum Qualifications for Exam: Completion of college coursework at the baccalaureate level in game or wildlife management, biology, zoology or other closely related field by December 31, 2005. (Letter from your college authority stating you will have completed college coursework at the baccalaureate level in game or wildlife management, biology, zoology or other closely related field by December 31, 2005 will also be accepted.) Candidates must have at least 20 hours of wildlife management coursework, i.e. wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, etc. When selecting applicants for positions, those applicants with a degree in natural resource management will be given preference. Upon employment, individuals must complete a 12-week Peace Officer Basic Training Course at the Wyoming State Law Enforcement Academy (WLEA) currently set to begin January, 2006. Please review the WLEAs physical fitness assessment standards (available at http://wleacademy.com “Physical Assessments”) to assure you can meet the requirements.
