Charles Grove, Superintendent of Schools, expressed satisfaction with the new teachers. "We are extremely pleased with the new teachers," Dr. Grove said. "It appears that we’re off to a good start."

Last year, teachers Cody Serk (middle school math) and Gene Lane (high school sociology, psychology and middle school social studies) left the district following the 2004/2005 school year. Only Serk was replaced.

Two teachers moved to other positions in the district. Maura Williams transferred from high school math to middle school math. Dave Petersen, a math teacher from Lander with twenty-seven years of experience and a desire to teach the Integrated Math Program taught in the Pinedale schools, will take her place. Ken Hartwig, who taught physical education in the middle and high schools for twelve years each, has moved to the high school to teach driver education and health.

Jonathan Fildey, a recent graduate of Grand Valley State in Michigan, will take Ken Hartwig’s place teaching physical education in the middle school. Jonathan, a first year teacher, wanted to start his career in Pinedale so he can enjoy the mountains and skiing in his free time.

Michelle Busch, an avid outdoorswoman from North Dakota who has five years teaching experience and a masters degree in reading, will be a new first grade teacher. Elizabeth Miller, who is from Normal, Illinois and received her teaching certificate from the University of Minnesota, will teach a third section of kindergarten. The section was added due to increased enrollment.

CoriAnn Lloyd, who has lived in Pinedale for a year will share a second grade teaching position with Diane Willson. Before moving to Pinedale, CoriAnn taught for five years in Utah.

In the middle school, Corelle Smith will teach a new program in math and extended studies. Corelle grew up in Laramie, and graduated from Chadron State in Nebraska. She has spent four years teaching in Las Vegas, Casper and Europe.

Tracy Hughes will fill the language arts and social studies position which was added due to increased enrollment in the middle school. Tracy, who grew up in Nevada taught for 12 years in Star Valley.

Diane Young, another teacher new to SCSD#1 with twenty-seven years of experience, will be the middle school special education teacher. Diane moved here from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and was a substitute teacher last year. Kay Pitchford, who been on contract for ten years with the district as an occupational therapist, has been hired in that position as an employee. Kay has twenty-nine years of experience.
