LaBarge Seismic Activity Notice
Mule deer hunters take note
September 21, 2005

Mule deer hunters should be aware that seismic activities associated with natural gas exploration will be taking place in the southern portion of Hunt Area 143 west of
LaBarge. The seismic activities recently approved by the Bridger-Teton National Forest will be taking place through October 14 on the north and east side of LaBarge Creek, which forms the boundary between mule deer hunt areas 143 and 135. The affected area will generally include Deadline Ridge and the LaBarge Creek tributaries of Bald Hornet Creek downstream to Rock Creek. North of Deadline Ridge, it will include the headwaters of Dry Piney, Black Canyon, Fogarty and Beaver Creeks.

The mule deer season runs from September 15 to October 8 in Hunt Area 143. Elk seasons in this area open October 15.

The seismic activities will include the use of helicopters for shuttling equipment, large buggy drill rigs and ATVs traveling throughout the permitted area. Such activities also will involve the periodic detonation of underground explosives.

"In an effort to mitigate the activity in the hunt areas, we have elected to suspend the operations during peak hunting days," said Bridger-Teton spokesperson Mary Cernicek.
