Glenrock defeats Big Piney, 47-14
Herders moves on to play Kemmerer Rangers for State Championship
November 5, 2005

The Glenrock Herders defeated the Big Piney Punchers 47-14 in the semi-final football game on Saturday, November 5, in Glenrock. Glenrock dominated the entire game with six touchdowns. Five of the touchdowns were followed by two-point conversions, and the final one with a successful point after kick.

Glenrock had three touchdowns and 24 points on the board before Big Piney was able to get past the tough Glenrock defense. Early in the third quarter, Quarterback Levi Greenwood ran the ball into the end zone himself for the Puncher’s first touchdown, then followed it by running in the two-point conversion. Big Piney finally got on the scoreboard 24-8.

The Herders were unstoppable and quickly pushed through with their 4th and 5th touchdowns and two-point conversions, upping their lead and score to 40-8 by the end of the third quarter.

Big Piney was hit with their third turnover of the game and first of three unsportsmanlike conduct, 15-yard penalties during the 4th quarter as their frustration showed through. Glenrock was able to get another touchdown and kick a successful point after to take the score to 47-8 mid way into the 4th quarter.

With a little under six minutes left in the final quarter, the Punchers drove hard to get the ball down to the Herder 4-yard line. Levi Greenwood threw to brother Parker, who was able to push through the Glenrock defense and win the Puncher’s second touchdown of the game. They attempted a two-point conversion, but a 10-yard penalty against Big Piney took the ball back to the 12-yard line, forcing the Punchers to kick on the retry. Levi Greenwood wasn’t able to get the point capture, bringing the score to 47-14 with 3:43 on the clock in the final quarter.

It was a huge disappointment for Big Piney, but the Puncher’s fate was sealed and they knew they were out of the running for the State 3A Title this year. The Glenrock Herders move up to take on the Kemmerer Rangers next weekend in the State 3A Championship game in Kemmerer.

The game was broadcast live on Pinedale’s KPIN 101.1 FM radio via Douglas radio station KKTY feed. Douglas radio station owner Dennis Switzer, and Dustin Plum, did the play-by-play.
