Leonid meteor shower lights up the sky
Peak is Sunday night
November 19, 2006

The annual Leonid meteor shower has been producing an impressive display across our expansive Wyoming night skies, with some of the shooting stars coming across as fast, bright fireballs with long trails. The show is expected to peak tonight, Sunday, November 19 with as many as 100 shooting stars per hour possible as the Earth passes through a trail of debris left by the Leonids’ parent comet. Bundle up, night-time temperatures will be in the teens, but the viewing is worth it!

The next chance for taking advantage of our clear, dark Wyoming night skies to view another meteor shower will occur in mid-December with the Geminids around December 13-14. Rates of observations may reach as high as 100 per hour.
