Hoback Rim landowners concerned about drilling on Forest
Fear negative impacts to wildlife, recreation and quality of life values
October 20, 2007

Landowners in the Hoback Rim area of the Upper Green River Valley have organized to speak out against oil and gas drilling in the Upper Hoback between Pinedale and Jackson Hole. The informal group, Landowners of the Upper Green, is seeking public support to join them in opposing more leasing or drilling on the Bridger-Teton National Forest in order to protect wildlife migration corridors, watershed and recreation values in the Upper Green saying, “These values would be irrevocably damaged by gas and oil production!.”

“We are a group of citizens and landowners in the Hoback Rim, Upper Green River, Upper New Fork River areas who have chosen to act to protect these areas,” a letter from the group states.

“Our position is that the BLM should designate these areas as Unavailable for Leasing. The rate and pattern of oil and gas development in Sublette County is overwhelming our communities at every level. We need to pace development and protect wildlife migration corridors on the Wind River Range front while development continues on the Pinedale Anticline and the Jonah Field. Some areas epitomize all that we cherish about Wyoming; the area of the Hoback Rim, Upper Green River and New Fork River and Wind River Range front is such an area.”

Local contacts for the landowners are Sarah Flitner (sflitner@wyoming.com), Tom Davenport (tdavenpo@wyoming.com), and Tucker Smith (ontherim@wyoming.com). They can be reached by mail at: Landowners of the Upper Green, PO Box 153, Cora, WY 82925

The group has more information available on this flyer: Hoback Rim Citizen and Landowner Letter (184K PDF)
