I-80 Reconstruction On Schedule
by Wyoming Department of Transportation
November 10, 2007

(Rock Springs) - Warm and dry weather conditions are allowing construction work on the Rock Springs Marginal Dewar Drive/Pilot Butte project to continue, either on or ahead of schedule.

At the Pilot Butte end of the project, paving operations continue and are expected to be completed in the mid to late part of the week of Nov. 12. Motorists are advised that traffic is under the control of flaggers when operations affect traffic movements. Motorists should slow down and use caution. The anticipated opening of the crossroad is Nov. 16, weather permitting.

Interstate 80 is open in both directions with intermittent, daytime single-lane closures between milepost 104.67 and Exit 107, as miscellaneous work is completed in the median. At Swanson Drive, local traffic can anticipate encountering flaggers with short delays while construction truck traffic crosses the roadway between the trailer court and interstate, as the contractor completes dirt work in preparation for next year's construction.

At the College Drive off and on ramps, construction traffic is under the control of flaggers, so there is no interruption in the flow of interstate off ramp traffic. The traveling public is asked to drive with caution and not stop on the off ramp.

At the Dewar Drive portion of the project, the eastbound mainline I-80 lanes, including the on and off ramps at Dewar Drive and College Drive, are anticipated to open between Nov. 14 and16, weather permitting. The speed limit will remain at 65 M.P.H., as there will be work in the median taking place, with intermittent, daytime single-lane closures.

At the Flaming Gorge Exit 99, traffic is under the control of flaggers 24-hours a day, seven days a week, while repairs and curing of concrete take place. A 14-foot width travel restriction is in effect. Traffic is expected to return to normal by month's end, weather permitting, as the repairs are currently on schedule. There is a half-mile section of the westbound lanes on the interstate closed while bridge work is taking place.

WYDOT and the prime contractor, Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. urges motorists to slow down, be cautious and observe road signs while driving through construction project. Construction vehicles are entering and leaving mainline I-80 throughout the project, so motorists should be prepared for traffic speed changes as slower traffic exits and enters the interstate.
