Looking for potential filming locations in Wyoming
by Wyoming Film Office
May 24, 2009

The Wyoming Film Office is calling for photos of potential filming locations throughout the state. We're updating our Reel-Scout database with hundreds of new images and we need your help. We're looking for any interesting locations that could be used by a production company for feature films, television specials and commercials. We need to have contact information for each location. For example, if the location is privately owned we need the owners contact information including address, directions, phone number, etc. If the location is on public land, we need to know which agency to contact for permitting, i.e. BLM, Forest Service, State Lands, etc. Contact Serese Kudar to send local submissions. She can be reached at 307.231.2716 or email to kudar@wyoming.com.

Film Industry Financial Incentive (FIFI) Program
The Film Industry Financial Incentive (FIFI) program is a cash rebate program for production companies of up to 15% on dollars spent in the State of Wyoming during a film shoot. The production company would have to spend a minimum amount of $200,000 to qualify and then meet additional criteria to determine the rebate percentage between 12%-15%.

Additional Incentives

The Wyoming Film Office has asked Wyoming businesses to offer production companies filming in Wyoming an additional 10% discount on production related services.

A list of statewide businesses participating in the program including hotels/motels, restaurants, caterers, etc., can be found at www.filmwyoming.com.

-Location Work in a Nutshell
In the film industry, location scouts try to show the "best of the best" to potential filmmakers. The idea is to get them interested with the "beauty shots" of a given location, prompting them to call and ask for more. To this end:

-Only 8-12 images per location. We don’t need exhaustive detail as much as we need quality shots.

-Differentiate your location types. If you’re uploading images for a ski resort, create entirely different locations files in Reel-Scout (see below) for the "interiors" and "exteriors." You don’t need a new file for every room in a building, but by the same token, if you’re shooting Yellowstone National Park, it makes little sense to cram 80 shots of waterfalls and geysers and lodges and roads into a single file. Separate them out by category for ease of management.

-No people! Filmmakers are interested in places, not people. If your best shot of a mountain has a few skiers in it, that’s fine. But remember the focus is on places rather than action shots.
