The 5th Annual Fight Against MS Quilt Show was held on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16 at the Big Piney Annex. This was the 5th year for the quilt show which is a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This year there were 51 quilts entered. In addition to local quilters, there were entries from people as far away as New Mexico, California and Florida. Some of the quilts were for sale and others were display only. The event is organized by Lynda Leeper of Big Piney.

In the first four years of the event, it has raised over $25,000.00. All of the money has gone to the Wyoming Chapter of the National Society. Leeper said she has been allowed to designate how the funds are allocated. She requested that 60% be earmarked for research and 40% for home health care needs for Wyoming MS sufferers.

Mystery writer, Earlene Fowler, from Fountain Valley, California, autographed "Broken Dishes," from her Benni Harper mystery series. The silent auction included a lap size throw of Oriental print done in the Broken dishes pattern to accompany the book.

There was also a heart pattern throw quilt in the silent auction with the proceeds being donated to local organization, "A Women’s Work".

A very special silent auction item this year was a Flag Day certificate, donated by Wyoming Senator John Barrasso and his wife Bobbi. The winner of the certificate got to choose a special day to have the U.S. Flag flown over the capitol in observation of something significant or whatever is important to the lucky winner. After the day the flag is flown, it will be sent to the winner.

Kathryn Stewart of Dumfries, Scotland, makes miniatures to decorate dollhouses or as clothing for teddy bears. She donated one of her miniatures, a 7" square which is a replica of a full size quilt.

In addition to the quilts, this was the second year for a used book sale with proceed going towards a scholarship for someone from Wyoming to attend one of the week-long life enrichment courses held at the Jimmie Heuga Center. Heuga, a former Olympic ski racer, was diagnosed with MS in 1970. The Heuga Center, based in Edwards, Colorado, helps MS victims and their families live with the impacts of MS.

Vendors at the quilt show included crocheted doilies from People’s Valley, Arizona; Wyo Tex Fabrics, Heart and Home Fabrics, Cottage Quilt Co (Jami Pearson), and Fallen Leaf Pottery by Max Guenthner.
