Work in Snake River Canyon to cause traffic delays

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is advising motorists driving through the Snake River Canyon that traffic delays should be expected on their weekday commute.
The $1.2 million contract was awarded to Hout Fencing of Wyoming, Inc. to install rock fall mesh, silt fence removal, under drain installation, and various other miscellaneous work between Alpine Jct. and the Hoback Jct. and has a contract completion date of October 31, 2010.
Delays can be expected of up to 20 minutes at milepost 120.27 through the end of July, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to as late as 5 p.m., with minor delays to be expected outside of those hours. The contractor will have one-way alternating traffic from Monday through Friday with some Saturday delays possible.
To install the rock fall mesh in that area, the contractor will need to knock down a lot of rocks. While they are bringing those rocks down, the road will need to be closed to all traffic to make sure that debris brought down does not come down onto moving traffic. The plan is to close the road, knock down rocks for 15 minutes, clear the road of the debris, and let traffic through.
WYDOT advises that there may be other minor delays throughout the canyon through the middle of August.
Motorists are advised to slow down and obey the posted speed limits while driving through construction areas. They should devote their full attention to the flaggers and changes in traffic patterns, traffic control devices, and signing to get through these construction areas safely. They should also increase their usual following distance, move into the correct lane well in advance, restrict cell phone usage or other distractions, and be aware of their surroundings.
