Installation Ceremony planned for BLM Pinedale Field Manager March 10
by Bureau of Land Management
February 25, 2011

The public is invited to attend the installment of Shane DeForest as field manager for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) High Desert District’s Pinedale Field Office (PFO) at 10:00 a.m. on Thurs., Mar. 10, at the PFO Rendezvous Room at 1625 Pine St., Pinedale, Wyo. BLM Wyoming State Director Don Simpson will administer the Oath of Office.

DeForest began his career with the BLM in 1986 as a volunteer biological aid in the Carson City (Nev.) District. After graduating from the University of Nevada-Reno in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in natural resource management with an emphasis on wildlife and fisheries, he joined the Elko (Nev.) District as a seasonal biological technician. DeForest worked his way up the ladder in Nevada and California as a wildlife/fisheries biologist, wild horse specialist, weeds specialist, fuels specialist, assistant fire management officer for fuels, assistant field manager and, finally, to field manager of the Northern California District’s Surprise Field Office. As field manager of the PFO, he will oversee 912,000 acres of BLM-administered surface lands and almost 300,000 acres of subsurface minerals in Sublette, Lincoln, Fremont, and Teton counties.

A native of Ely, Nev., DeForest was raised in a family passionate about the outdoors and that has translated into his taking the public land stewardship responsibilities of the BLM very seriously. "The demands being placed on public lands today are heavy and it seems everyone wants something from them. As field manager, it is my responsibility to coordinate the diverse interests and try to find a way to consider as many of them as possible while still meeting our congressional mandate for multiple use and sustained yield."
