New Photo Contest to document CCC Ponds
Fred Pflughoft invites local photographers to join in one-year photo project to document 365 Days at the CCC Ponds
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
October 28, 2011

Pinedale Online and nationally recognized and award-winning local photographer, Fred Pflughoft, would like to invite ALL photographers; young and old, amateur and professional to participate in a special Photo Contest.

The contest will run for one year (from January 1st, 2012 – December 31st, 2012) and its focus will be entirely on the CCC Pond Area and coincide with Fred's work to document 365 Days at the CCC Ponds (Check out his October Gallery here at Pinedale Online).

The goal is to get people to see the beauty that virtually lays at their feet and to have some fun doing it. The challenge is to take an interesting, unique, or visually stunning image of an area we should all be familiar with.

You will be able to submit as many as two images per month, and Fred will put some of the best ones submitted up on his Gallery page each month. At the end of twelve months, the contest will be judged by a panel, and the top three will receive the following prizes:

1st Place: An all day photo excursion (with instruction) with Fred to the place of your choice within fifty miles of Pinedale, a signed copy of his coffee table book, Wild and Beautiful Wyoming II, and an 8"x10" framed, limited-edition print of your favorite one of Fred's 365 Days @ the CCC Pond project.

2nd Place: A signed copy of Fred's book, Wild and Beautiful Wyoming II, and a 8"x10" framed, limited edition print of your favorite one of Fred's 365 Days @ the CCC Pond project.

3rd Place: An 8"x10" framed, limited-edition print of your favorite one of Fred's 365 Days @ the CCC Pond project.

So gear up to get out there and show us what you've got. Let your friends and family know, fellow students or fellow photographers. Remember this contest is open to anyone who owns a camera. Have some fun and let's make this a community project. The CCC Pond area is a unique treasure for us all to enjoy!

Friday, October 28, 2011: "With the inclusion of this gallery into my portfolio I am officially introducing you to an ongoing project of mine that I started in 2006. This project's goal is to take one interesting, unique, or visually stunning image of the CCC Pond area for each day of the year (not all in the same year, as I can't get up there every day in a year). This project was formed in my mind after seeing a similar idea presented by professional wildlife photographer, Jim Brandenburg in a National Geographic article several years back; so it is not an original idea and many people are now doing something very similar. The CCC Pond area is a beautiful piece of OUR property (administered by both the BLM and U.S. Forest Service) only a couple miles from our home here in Pinedale. My goal is to present to you, the viewing public, the spectacular beauty that virtually lays at our feet and oftentimes is really at our feet, such as the image above. A small area like this forces me as a professional photographer to really LOOK for the beauty in the the little things, or as professional photographer, Eliot Porter called it, "The Intimate Landscape". It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the "Intimate Landscapes" of the CCC Ponds on a month by month basis for the next year. You will notice days missing and so it is that this is an ongoing project for me. One that I continue to delight in as I find all the little treasures that the CCC Ponds have to offer to the trained eye. Also be sure and check out the Photo Contest that Pinedale Online and I are offering to all photographers in our immediate area. The image above is one I had to leave out because I felt that "Passed in the Night" was a better choice for October 16th." – Fred Pflughoft
