The Pinedale Glacier Peewee Hockey Team took second place in the B Division at the Wyoming Amateur Hockey League State Tournament this past weekend.

"I’m really proud of these kids and how they pulled it together just as they always do." said Coach Jeff Lewis. "We had outstanding goal tending and great team defense even though we were missing one of our top defensive men, Carson Stinson. The team really pulled through at the right time."

The Glaciers came out on top in the first game Friday night against the Casper Oilers East with a 2 to 1 win. The Oilers, fifth ranked in the standings, proved a tough team to beat. With no score in the first period, Casper netted one with less than two minutes left in the second period. Third period brought two goals for the Glaciers. The first, almost three minutes into the period, by Jaydon Lewis with assists from Hannah Mivshek and Cody Crumb. Lewis also scored the second goal to capture the win assisted by Crumb and Chris Perkins, a first year forward. Goalie John Mitchell blocked an amazing 33 out of 34 shots on goal made by the Oilers.

"We played teams that beat us at the beginning of the year so to come back and win against them shows how much our team has improved." The Glaciers started out the tournament ranked 11 out of 12 teams overall with only one win and three ties.

Saturday’s game was also a hard earned victory against the Riverton River Rats at 4 to 3. Crumb scored the first goal of the game 46 seconds into the first period assisted by Lewis. Riverton managed to score with only 12 seconds left. The Glaciers slammed three goals in the second period first by Lewis, Crumb and Mivshek assisted. Another first year player, forward Chance Fandek, scored the second goal with an assist by defenseman Cole Andersen. Lewis then scored again with a Mivshek assist. The River Rats netted two additional goals in the third period but couldn’t get another to tie. Mitchell blocked 25 shots on goal.

Sunday, the Glaciers went up against the Casper Oilers West to battle for first and second place. Casper scored the first and only goal of the game nearly ten minutes into the first period. Glaciers Goalie blocked 20 shots on goal with Casper blocking 19 shots showing just how evenly these teams were matched.

"It was an exciting game to watch" said Team Manager and parent Patty Sundgren. "Players on both teams skated so hard and played a great game. We’re very proud of our kids." Lewis also stated, "It has been such a pleasure coaching these kids and working with all the parents."
