The Eden/Farson Fire Control District recently received a new 2012 Dodge 4500 ambulance, thanks to the generosity of a number of operators and businesses, as well as a leading contribution of $30,000 from Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc.

The ambulance is stocked with the latest communications and equipment, including a heart defibrillator, and powerful enough to travel highway, desert or hills. It will be on call for anything from emergency requests to high school events that require an ambulance to be in attendance.

"We are 40 miles from the nearest hospital, sometimes further," said Shirley DeLambert, a longtime EMT of the Eden Valley Ambulance Service. "If our 2004 ambulance breaks down, it leaves us nothing to respond in. Plus, if we take someone in from a football game or rodeo, they must stop play until we return. We needed a reliable ambulance and updated equipment, and this new ambulance helps tremendously."

A dedicated team of 30 volunteers serves on the fire and ambulance service. The team responds to 10 service calls per month and covers areas 25 miles north to Pinedale, 25 miles south to Rock Springs, 30 miles east to Lander, and 30 miles west to Kemmerer under a mutual agreement to supply needed back-up to other emergency service providers.

"We serve our district with honor and pride, and we couldn’t do so without the great support of our community. Our service is valuable to all who travel or live in our district, anyone that may need medical attention of some kind will benefit from our new ambulance," said LeLambert. "We also offer CPR, EMT and first aid classes, and do wellness testing every year."

In addition to Encana USA’s donation, the Eden/Farson Fire Control District also received $22,000 from BP, $5, 000 from Questar, $1,000 from Bridger Valley Electric, a cell phone valued at $1,000 from Union Wireless for when the radio system is out of area, and $750 from Devon Energy. The Fire District paid for the remaining cost of the ambulance.

"Our contribution reflects Encana’s deep appreciation to the Eden/Farson Fire Control District volunteers for the crucial services they provide to the families, businesses and Encana employees in the area," said Randy Teeuwen, Encana USA community relations advisor. "We are happy to help purchase the new ambulance to continue delivering superior emergency response and keep Eden and Farson communities safe."

"We are really grateful for Encana, BP and all the donations we received to get this new ambulance," said DeLambert. "It’s companies like these that truly help our residents and improve our community."
