Donít fall for firefighter donation phone scam
January 6, 2016
There have been reports of local people getting phone calls from someone claiming to be from the local fire department asking for donations. The call is a scam. The Sublette County Unified Fire does not make phone calls to fundraise.
This is just one of many phone scams people might receive. Scammers even know how to fake the Caller ID number to make it appear they might be from the local fire or police department, the IRS, or a local bank to trick people. The callers can be very aggressive, demanding and believable. Never give personal information out over the phone no matter who the caller claims to be or work for. When in doubt or if you have questions about the legitimacy of a fundraising campaign or payment demand, contact the company directly using contact numbers you research and find independently or obtained from your account billing paperwork. Never use a call-back phone number given by the potential scam caller.
