100-year old cattle drive continues in Sublette County, but faces threats
November 1, 2016

Wyoming PBS and Wyoming Humanities will host a preview screening of "The Drift" in the Lovatt Room of the Sublette County Library in Pinedale on Tuesday, November 15 from 7-8:30PM.

Following a 20-minute clip from the documentary, producer Geoff O’Gara will moderate a discussion with ranchers, land managers and federal agency representatives focused on some of the issues raised in the film, including Wyoming’s culture of ranching, the concept of "multiple use" of public lands, and conservation. The event is free and open to the public.

About the documentary:
Every year in the early summer, a group of Wyoming ranchers drive their cattle high into the Rocky Mountains to the largest unfenced federal grazing area in the United States. The Green River Drift is an old-fashioned horseback cattle drive. In some cases, the livestock travel 100 miles, but the threats it faces are modern. Those threats include roads, drilling rigs, government-protected grizzly bears and wolves, vacation homes, and the waning interest of a younger generation in this arduous and communal enterprise. "The Drift" airs on Wyoming PBS on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 8:30pm and Sunday, December 4 at 10pm. "The Drift" is a production of The Content Lab, LLC.
