March 2, 2017
Editorís Note: Pinedale High School junior, Zoe Noble, age 16, is selling raffle tickets to raise money needed to pay for her trip to go to the 2017 XC Junior Nationals Competition in Lake Placid, New York this month. Raffle tickets are $10 each. Below is her letter explaining this opportunity and asking for support.
Message from Zoe:
Soon Iíll trade the cold and snow of Wyoming for the snow of Lake Placid, New York. Known as the hometown of cross-country (XC) ski races - I canít wait to experience the course and terrain for the 2017 XC Junior Nationals Competition.
Junior Nationals (for short) is a four-race series that the top athletes from around the nation attend. You must qualify in your division to participate. I am the only Pinedale High School student that qualified through the High Plains Division (which includes South Dakota and parts of Montana). The races include a sprint, team-relay, skate, and classic race, of which my favorite is long-distance classic.
Junior Nationals is the highlight of my ski season. I get to race with others from Wyoming that I otherwise race against during the regular High School season. I value the week of superb coaching and being pushed by other athletes that are also highly committed to the sport.
Besides being a ton of fun, attending Junior Nationals is important for my long term goal of racing on the University of Wyomingís Elite Cross Country Ski team. In fact, it was at Junior Nationals my Freshman year that I learned how much I love to travel and compete with spirited, positive, and fun peers.
This adventures comes at a price though! I have emptied my summer savings into attending the trip, but am defraying some of the cost with a raffle. Each winning raffle ticket of $10 wins either a homemade pie and jam, a nightís stay at the Chambers House Bed & Breakfast, or a $30 gift certificate to the Pinedale Brew Pub. You can buy tickets until March 17th! If this interests you (and Iíll race extra fast to make Pinedale proud!), please drop off a check at Office Outlet for Zoe Noble or PayPal firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support!
I want to thank my uncle, Tony Chambers for getting me into the sport and still supporting me eight years later, my coach Holly Thane, and my parents - Ann and Dave Noble for employing me last summer to save for this trip! Wish me luck! - Zoe Noble, 16
